Calibrating Your Burn-out Furnace is No Fluke The Temperature of your burnout furnaces have a large effect on the quality of your metal castings. Rounded margins, rough casting surfaces, short castings, and porosity are all possible results from incorrect burnout temperatures. When was the last time you checked the calibrations of your furnaces? BEGO recommends purchasing a Fluke Thermal Meter and Metal probe (see photo). This, or any similar meter, will display a quick and accurate temperature reading in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Place the temperature probe into the muffle through the chimney for an accurate temperature reading. Keeping your burnout temperature accurate ensures consistency in your castings.
